Jelena is a first generation Serbian-Canadian.
I grew up with her in Windsor, Ontario, Canada from our first day of kindergarten to our high school graduation.
Her mother, an artist, and stepdad, a business owner, reside in a suburb of metro Detroit called Bloomfield Hills, Michigan — a prime destination for white flight and suburbanization in the 20th century. Jelena and I played dress up in her mother’s closet.
